Sri Lanka, End To End, Step By Step
I'm walking 500 miles over 40 days to raise money for 2 charities
On the 1st of January at 6.00am I will be alone at a scrub of land at the very far north of Sri Lanka called Point Pedro. I will then take the first step of a journey that will test me both physically and emotionally. I’m looking to walk 12 miles very day, carrying all that I need in very hot conditions.
Maybe I should take an umbrella like this monk I photographed the last time I was in Sri lanka.
So why Sri Lanka in January
January is known as the month of the blues and I’m looking to raise much needed funds for two charities that have mental health at their core. “Mind” in the UK and “The Tea Leaf Trust” in Sri Lanka.
This will be my forth trip to Sri Lanka. I’ve been very lucky in my life and I’ve been able to travel to many places but for some reason, Sri Lanka has a part of my heart.
Sri Lanka is divided into 3 distinct regions. The North is arid, flat, dusty and very hot which I think will be a mental challenge. The middle part is the hill country and will be a physical challenge. The final third, is sub tropical, hot and steamy.
I’ll be obviously taking pictures of my trip. I’ll be documenting my journey, trying to capture my thoughts and feelings along with the people I meet and what I see. It’s a beautiful way to work with lots of freedom. Saying that, I want it to be much more than just a collection of pretty pictures. I will be producing a book about my journey which will include little notes that family and close friends will be giving me as support for what is going to be an amazing and also a tough experience.
So, how can you help?
I’m running a “Kickstarter” campain for the book that I’ll be producing. It means that you can support me by pledging for the book. These funds will help support me doing the actual walk, ie food and lodging as this will all have a cost.
If you decide to support me, you will get your name listed in the book as a supporter of the project, along with my eternal thanks. You can look at a short film about the trip and support here
I also have a “Just Giving” page where all the funds will go to the charities, you can donate here
You can even just buy me a cup of tea here 😄
I’ll be using this “Substack” account to update regularly about the project.
Thank you for your time and I hope you can support this project in some way.
